Soda Ash

Soda Ash, otherwise known by its proper chemical name as “sodium carbonate”, is the water-soluble sodium salt of carbonic acid. It is also the active ingredient in washing soda, which it is also sometimes commonly referred to as. It is more basic or less acidic than sodium bicarbonate, more commonly known as baking soda, and its main purpose is to simply increase something’s pH levels.

Aside from being used as a detergent product in the washing and removing of stains from clothes, soda ash, or sodium carbonate, also plays a huge and important role in the production of glass. It can also be used as a pH regulator for maintaining stable alkaline conditions that are necessary for the dark room processes associated with film photography. Another important function of soda ash or sodium carbonate is that it is added to swimming pools in order to stabilize the corrosive effects of chlorine and other highly acidic chemicals needed to purify the water in swimming pools, as well as increase the pH levels in swimming pools.
