Acetone (Avantor 9010-03, PHOTREX, 4 Lt Bottle)
Intended as a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT), Photrex-grade acetone has proven useful in treating and eliminating various microbial cells including bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Used to treat wet age-related macular degeneration, psoriasis, atherosclerosis, and even herpes, Photrex has been instrumental in treating malignant cancers found in the head, neck, lungs, bladder, and especially on the skin. Photrex has even been used in human trials to treat prostate cancer with some success. PDT, also referred to as photochemotherapy, is widely recognized as a near non-invasive and minimally toxic therapy for a slew of ailments that would require more significant intervention otherwise. Photosensitizers such as Photrex are also used to strelizie blood plasma and water to remove blood-borne pathogens such as viruses and microbes, and there has been extensive research into using photosensitizers such as Photrex in agriculture as herbicides and insecticides. Despite its extensive use in photochemistry, Photrex is still highly flammable and volatile, and needs to be stored and transported according to strict protocols.
