Ammonium Lauryl Ether Sulfate is also known as Ammonium Diethylene glycol and in its physical state is a clear to yellow liquid. AmmoniumLauryl Ether Sulfate for lawns is marketed as a liquid aerator to loosen compacted soil. It results in better root growth and greater crop yields. The compound does have emulsifying properties that causes it to bind to and dissolve dirt and oil in the hair. It is often used in less expensive shampoos to increase lather, but is also suspected of causing hair loss due to its harshness on hair follicles and irritation to skin.
Ammonium Lauryl Ether Sulfate MSDS cautions that the compound may cause moderate irritation to the eyes, the skin, and the respiratory system. When in direct contact with high concentrations of the compound, personal protective equipment such chemical goggles and impervious gloves should be worn.
