Ammonium Sulfamate is a white, crystaline solid, that is soluble in water. It has many uses in industrial process but is commonly marketed as Ammonium Sulfamate herbicide used to kill unwanted vegetation. Many Ammonium sulfamate suppliers distribute the compound under various tradenames such as Root-Out, Amicide, and Ammate X-NI. It is also highly toxic to Poison Ivy, and is used to control the species in public green spaces. As a compost accelerator it helps activate decomposition and proves successful at breaking down woodier weeds that tough to decompose.
Similar to other ammonium salts, Ammonium sulfamate is also a flame retardant with a low decomposition temperature. This makes it suitable for retarding flames of cellulose-based materials like wood and paper. Its toxicity is only slight to animals and humans, therefore it is often used for home gardening in addition to forestry and professional uses.
