Borax (Sodium Borate)
Borax goes by a lot of different names so if you are confused, you’ll also hear it referred to as sodium borate, disodium tetraborate or sodium tetraborate. This is one of the more important compounds of borons and it is both a mineral and a salt of boric acid. Typically, you’ll find that Borax is in a powdered form and it consists of soft crystals that appear colorless. Furthermore, borax is easily dissolved in water. This chemical has a lot of uses in a wide variety of different applications and industries. You’ll find that borax is one of the more common components found in detergents, cosmetics and some enamel glazes. Additionally, you’re going to find that borax can even be used as a fire retardant and it can be used in the manufacturing of fiberglass. Lastly, it’s important to understand that borax is not acutely toxic.
