Categorized as a slow-evaporating, hydrophilic glycol ether that offers exceptional coalescing and coupling power, Butyl Carbitol™ is an industrial solvent with numerous useful applications. Additionally, this compound can be combined with Butyl Cellosolve™ to lower the evaporation rate and increase the hydrophobicity of a solvent compound. Best of all, Butyl Carbitol™ is 100% water soluble. Typically, Butyl Carbitol™ is used as a latex coalescent in water-based architectural and industrial coatings, as well as a coupling agent and solvent in household and industrial cleaning solutions, rust removers, hard surface cleaners, and various disinfectants. It is also the primary solvent in solvent-based inks for silk screen printing, and as a coupling solvent for resins and dyes in water-based print inks. Additional uses include as a solvent for ball point pen and felt tip pen inks, and removing or dissolving textile and printing dyes. Finally, it also functions as a de-activator and stabilizer for agricultural pesticides.
