Hydrobromic Acid

This substance is classified as a strong acid, meaning that it is highly corrosive and dangerous to humans. It is a mostly colorless liquid, although it may have a faint yellowish hue to it. It produces a sharp, acrid odor, but it is not flammable. Hydrobromic acid is created by dissolving hydrogen bromide in water. It is one of the most potent mineral acids in production.

The primary application of this substance is to create other chemicals, as well as inorganic bromides. Most of the time, it is utilized to produce bromides of zinc, calcium, and sodium. In other applications, hydrobromic acid can be used to cleave certain ethers or to catalyze alkylation reactions.

Since it is highly corrosive, this substance must be handled with care and caution. Gloves, goggles, and a breathing mask should be worn at all times. It must be stored in a cool, dry area, and should not be exposed to tissue directly.
