Nitric Acid Instra (Avantor BA-9598-34, 2.5 Liter Bottle)
This is a transparent, colorless substance that produces a strong, acrid odor. Usually, nitric acid is found in concentrations of about 68%, but it can also be produced in much higher doses. Above 85%, it is considered fuming, meaning that its corrosive capabilities are much more defined. It can emit a strong vapor, and it is toxic to humans.
The primary purpose of nitric acid is to make fertilizer. This is done by combining it with ammonia to produce ammonium nitrate. In higher concentrations, it could also be utilized the production of certain explosive, as well as some organic compounds. Nitric acid may also be found in rocket fuel or as a nylon precursor.
Since this is a corrosive acid, it must be handled with the proper care and attention. Gloves, eye protection, and a breathing mask are necessary, particularly if it is highly concentrated. The vapors produced by nitric acid can irritate the lungs and may cause bronchitis. It is not flammable and should be stored in a cool, dry area.
