Propylene Glycol Propyl Ether
A colorless liquid possessing an ether-like odor, propylene glycol propyl ether evaporates quickly and is completely water soluble. Propylene oxide-based, any solution of propylene glycol ether contains a minimum of a 95% concentration. It’s primary application is in the production of industrial and consumer products such as household cleaners, including glass and all-purpose cleaners. It is also added to grease and paint remover, and as a solvent to regulate coalescence. Eye contact with propylene glycol propyl ether may result in moderate irritation with the possibility of mild corneal injury. Prolonged skin contact may cause slight irritation with local redness, but the likelihood of harmful absorption is remote. Inhalation of vapors is unlikely to cause adverse effects, but excessive exposure can result in irritation of the upper respiratory tract (nose and throat), as well as anesthetic or narcotic effects. Propylene glycol propyl ether is biodegradable, and is unlikely to accumulate in the food chain.
